Power steering systems using an electrohydraulic power steering (EHPS) pump are a development from the original direct drive pump systems but still use a hydraulic power steering rack and power steering fluid (CHF – central hydraulic fluid) to provide the power assistance to the driver.

The manufacturers claim they provide an improved steering feel and reduction in carbon emissions because the pressure and volume of the pump output is controlled by an integrated ECU which takes into account vehicle information such as vehicle speed and steering wheel turning angle.
